and i was taken and shown to look over and within a country ...
and the country ...that i was in ...was like a foreign country ...
and the land was like all gray with dark shadows ...
and house made of walls ...walls plastered of the same grayness ...
and the houses were pressed one against another ...
and the streets were cramped cobbled covered with stone ...easy to stumble on ...
and the streets were dark and shadowy from the houses ...being ...being pressed so much against each other ...
and the people talked and walked and worked ...
even in all the shadows and cramped and dark spaces ...
and the phrases ways and works ...seemed all foreign to me ...
and i was shown the ways of women and men and men with women and women with men were different ...
even as foreign ...were their relationships one unto another appear ...
and i was taken and shown from above ...a mans house ...
and the mans house had a back yard ...though cramped and walled in all roundabout ...
even fenced in the back ...
and at the far end of the yard ...in the middle of the space ...was a shrine of some sort ...a lawn altar ...
even much like the "bath tub shrines" seen in places in the land of the eagle ...
and i wondered a mighty wonder where that idea of a lawn altar came from ...
and then scripture came back to remembrance ...of the hill altars and shrines the God hated ...
THE SECOND BOOK OF KINGS Chpt 16
The seventeenth year of Phakah son of Romeliah king of Israel, Ahaz son of Jotham king of Juda, began to reign. Twenty year old was he when he was made king: and reigned sixteen year in Jerusalem, and did not that was right in the eyes of the Lord his God, like David his father: But went in the way of the kings of Israel, and thereto he offered his son in fire, after the abomination of the heathen which the Lord cast out before the children of Israel. And he offered and burnt the fat in the hill altars and on the hills and under every green tree. Then Razin King of Siria and Phakeh son of Romeliah King of Israel came up to Jerusalem to fight. And they besieged Ahaz, but could not overcome him. At the same time Razin King of Siria brought Ailath again to Siria, and rid the Jews thence. And the Sirians went to Ailath and dwelt therein unto this day.
and i was taken within ...a public place ...
and again the place was full of grayness and shadows and plastered walls ...
and i was given to help ...and to make a window ...in the gray plastered wall ...
even that any might see out of the dark shadowy closed in place ...
and as i worked ...men of the place came ...
and laughed at the works ...
and scoffed and mocked and ridiculed ...
and moved me away ...a way from the works of providing a window ...that any might see out of ...
and as they mocked they said ..."he must be a Czechian"
and even the word ...the name laid upon me ...was foreign to me.
and scripture came back to remembrance...
THE GOSPELL OF ST. LUKE Chpt 4
And he came to Nazareth where he was nursed and as his custom was, went into the synagogue on the Saboth days, and stood up for to read. Then said Jesus to those Jewes which believed on him. If ye continue in my words, then are ye my very disciples, and shall know the truth: and the truth shall make you free. They answered him: We be Abrahams seed, and were never bond to any man: why sayest thou then, ye shall be made free?
Jesus answered them: Verily, verily I say unto you, that whosoever committeth sin, is the servant of sin. And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: But the son abideth ever. If the son therefore shall make you free, then are ye free indeed. I know that ye are Abrahams seed: but ye seek means to kill me, because my sayings have no place in you. I speak that I have seen with my father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father. They answered and said unto him: Abraham is our father. Jesus said unto them. If ye were Abrahams children ye would do the deeds of Abraham. But now ye go about to kill me, a man that have told you the truth which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham. Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they unto him: we were not born of fornication. We have one father, which is God. Jesus said unto them: if God were your father, then would ye love me. For I proceeded forth and come from God. Neither came I of myself, but he sent me. Why do ye not know my speech? Even because ye cannot abide the hearing of my words.
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, then speaketh he of his own. For he is a liar, and the father thereof. And because I tell you the truth, therefore ye believe me not.
